The Avon River

If you get time to look at the scenery the Avon Valley is extremely beautiful.

If you have the skills you can avoid getting into trouble.

If you are entering the Avon Descent as a first timer make sure you choose a boat with stability. Some first timers are choosing tippy boats that they are having trouble paddling in flatwater

Juniors just having fun on Wednesday evening.

The Super Moon

was blocked out by cloud.

The moon came up extremely bright and big on Tuesday evening but as it lifted above the trees the clouds ruined a good picture. A bit out of focus because I was in my kayak trying to hold it still.

Sit-On-Top Sea Guide Course

Paddle WA run several instructor courses,

Basic Skills, Whitewater or Sea

so if you ever want to become an instructor why not give it a go.

I ran this course last week

I have been a Paddle Australia Instructor since 1979 so I have taught a few hundred people since then.

I never thought I would still be doing it at 70 years old.
The good thing is I don't feel any less capable than when I was 30 years old.

Ah - maybe a teeny-weeny bit!!

Birds in the Bassendean Area
The Cormorants are back!

Last Thursday 22nd April the cormorants in their hundreds flew along the river. This is the first time this year I have seen it. This fly-in usually starts to happen around May time so you should start seeing them on a regular basis.

It's a spectacular display especially when they fly low just above your head.

Last Saturday when lockdown was on and less traffic was on the river these pelicans slept in.

They were a bit more livelier a few days later.

An egret wonders what it can do today.

Water Skiing at Garvey Park Belmont

As part as Belmont's Autumn Festival at Garvey Park they have water skiing as at attraction.

The day wasn't that sunny as it was the day before the cyclone.

Ascot Kayak Club also had a Come & Try.
Not at the same time though!

Impressive but a little bit of bank erosion here!!
