Epic Kayaks have just released the new Epic V9 which will be coming to WA and Canoeing Down Under soon. See below.
The Progressive Racing Group are extremely keen not to miss a night of training. Even on Tuesday when we had the big storm 19 paddlers turned up for training.
There was also a good number at Skills Training on Thursday evening when another storm was heading through.
I can't remember seeing so many electrical storms as we have had over the last few days. There have been some spectacular lightning shows, many captured by John O'Sullivan. John takes some amazing photos. Check out his facebook page.
It will be interesting to see if any of the rivers start to flow.
The Tuesday evening storm had members taking cover for several minutes. The river was perfect for paddling once it had gone through.

Olympic Slalom Selection Race
WAs Brodie Crawford paddling for selection in C1M slalom but narrowly missed out to Daniel Watkins
With only one male in K1 being selected WAs Ben Pope missed out. Lucien Delfour clinched his place.
WAs Steven Lowther was also contesting the C1 selection.
When a sports writer, writes an article on a sport, you would have thought they would have some idea the difference between a oar and a paddle.

SCULLING FOR SUPPORT
If you are a white water enthusiast and plan to side-surf
big stoppers, it is advisable to practise 'sculling for support' on flat water first. The objective of 'sculling for support' is to stay balanced by maintaining the blade's movement across the water surface, while edging the kayak towards the sculling side.
- Use the face (front) side of the blade.
- Overbalance your boat towards the nominated
sculling side.
- With the leading edge of the blade raised slightly, scull across the water surface to and fro. Use your wrists to adjust the blade angle. The
raised leading edge is helpful in assisting the paddle to track the surface and preventing the blade from slicing too far downwards.
- Use your wrists alternately to lift the leading edge of the blade as it sculls backwards and forwards.
- The paddle shaft should be held low to guarantee a flat sculling blade and maximum contact with the water.
The kayak is essentially controlled by knee lift. The
knee opposite the sculling side usually supplies the lift. However, when you use sculling to resist a capsize, lift should come from the knee nearest to the sculling blade.
Doug having a great time in the surf!
New Epic V9
Coming Soon to Canoeing Down Under
COMING SOON
V9 – The Future of Surfski
Speed, stability, agility. The V9 has it all in spades. The latest entry to the Epic surfski line up can take you to new and exciting places you’ve only dreamed of: downwind surfing, open-ocean crossings, challenging races, fitness sessions, or just plain fun. Decades of experience in advanced hull designs has produced the most versatile surfski on the water! At 19’ x 19”, the V9 was designed by Epic’s founder and chief designer, Greg Barton, to fill a sweet spot
between the V8 Pro and V10 Sport. Like the Gen 3 V10, the V9 has been optimized for downwind surfing, with increased rocker, and stability. Flatwater speed is a step up from the V8 Pro due to the slightly narrower beam. This is the boat many paddlers have been waiting their whole lives for – the one that launches you onto the swells, glides efficiently across the water, and keeps you in the “zone”.
The comfort of Epic surfskis is legendary. We believe that better comfort leads to greater performance. If you’re not comfortable in the boat, nothing else matters! The seat ergonomics of the V9 are superb, incorporating the shape of the Gen 3 V10 seat, with a lower “hump” under the knees for improved leg power. The cockpit configuration, with the fully adjustable Epic footboard, accommodates paddlers from 4’11 to 6’6” tall (1.5 to 1.99 m). Our popular side carry handles make it a breeze to
carry solo.
The V9 also comes with Epic’s revolutionary high-volume bailer system. The bailer can be completely closed for flat or cold water environments, and has four adjustable positions depending on the conditions, from mild to wild. It can be easily operated with your foot so you never miss a stroke.
Decades of experience in the making, by arguably one of the world’s best designers, the V9 is the boat we have all been waiting for!
