I can't paddle at the moment but I can't keep away from the river. When Jenny and I take Nikki for a walk at Bayswater there are always paddlers from the Bayswater Paddlesports Club training early in the morning.

When I look out of my window at home there are the Ascot and Bayswater paddlers paddling by. I can't wait to be back on the water after Christmas but I will be taking it easy for a while.

Canoe Sprint Grand Prix 1, West Lakes, Adelaide, SA

In the men’s 16 & under events, Western Australian Tim Hyde (Canning River) took home the win in the men’s K1 1000, 500 and 200 metres event. He also successfully teamed up with Daniel Hardwick (Currumbin Creek, Queensland) to win the 1000, 500 and 200 metres K2 events. Hyde made it a complete series winning also the men’s K4 500 together with Morgan and Noah Boldy (Ascot) and Kylan Jegorow. Morgan and Kylan were 2nd in K2/16 500m and 200. Morgan and Noah were 2nd in the K2 16/1000m. More results when I find them all.

GP1 also saw the next generation of aspiring Junior team paddlers coming up with the under 16-years age showing some promising results, including Currumbin Creek’s 15-year old paddler Ava Lund (QLD) winning the women’s K1 16 & under events over the 500 and 1000 metres. Lund also won the women’s K2 16 & under in the 1000, 500 and 200 metres events together with Western Australian Hana Vanek (Bayswater), who added a win in the women’s K1 16 1000 to her successful series at GP1.

Fund Raising Christmas Cakes

for Hunter

Hunter is still training incredibly hard to reach his goals (if you are down at the river on any day you would probably think he doesn't ever go home!) and is hoping to better is silver and bronze medals that he picked up at the 2019 Australian Junior Canoe Slalom Championships in January. To help offset some of his travel costs for upcoming trips in 2020 I am baking Christmas Cakes again. As well as the Santa and Reindeer cakes I have also added a Christmas Turkey (although Izzy isn't quite sure it is a turkey, you be the judge!).

Each cake weighs approximately 500gms and comes beautifully packaged in a clear acetate box. For only $17.00 they make perfect gifts for family, friends, teachers or that tricky secret Santa gift! If you would like to purchase one (two or even more) please let me know.

I sponsor Young Hunter by the way of giving him an Epic K1 to paddle. It is the one that I gave Coran Longwood to paddle when he was a great junior.

CHANGES TO 2019/2020 MARATHON SCHEDULE

See below an updated schedule. The changes are as follows:

1. Marathon Open K4 Competition moved to 2nd February 2020:

Venue: Champion Lakes

Date: 2nd February [second day of Sprint “States”]

Format: 2 x 4k races of 10 boats each followed by 2 more set up as “B” and “A” finals.

Boat Transport: All K4s will be transported to and from Champion Lakes on the big trailer [2 days before]

Entering: Paddlers form teams and train prior to the event.

2. WA Canoe Marathon Championships [“States”] at Bayswater

Venue Change: The Marathon Committee is proposing a three-year venue cycle: Ascot, Bayswater and Champion Lakes

Venue for 2020: Both Bayswater Paddlesports Club

Venue Date: The event has been exchanged with Pinjarra and will now be on 21/22 March to accommodate boat transport to and paddlers tapering their training for “Nationals” in Geelong on April 17th.

3. Event at Champion Lakes, May 17th, “Relay Rumble"

Main Event: Two-person four-lap relay [4K laps]. Each paddler paddles 2 x 4K laps. Handover will be a 100m run from one paddler to another.

Guppy Event: The guppy relay would go around a 2K course.

16Km Single Marathon Option [with portages]: For those who want [might be of interest for paddlers going to “Worlds”].
