The early bird entries for the Avon Descent open this Sunday which means the white water and the Avon Descent is not too far
away.
The Avon Descent is a great race, I have done 26 but unfortunately it takes place at the same time as the best season to paddle in the USA, Canada and the Kimberley. I have been away on 14 expeditions which has conflicted with the Avon Descent. It has been a bit unfortunate because I love the Avon but those expeditions have been even more of a challenge. I would
be racing again this year if I wasn’t going over to Canada to paddle up the coast from Vancouver in July with John Breed and Luke Dooley.

Why don't you have fun on an Epic V7.

2019 Australian Canoe Marathon Championships
Ascot Kayak Club WA, 17th-19th May
Paddle WA is excited to host this years' Oceania & Australian Canoe Marathon Championships. So far 286 paddlers are taking part.
18 more have registered for the novice race.
Whilst many paddlers were racing on Sunday, (I was hoping to,) I had a delivery of 5 Grafton Paddle Sports Kayaks and an Epic ski at the same time as the race was on.
Low volume Alchemist a Bettong - and 2 Time Bandits, plus a medium volume Alchemist below. The Bettong is a little more stable than the Alchemist so if the Alchemist is too hard to balance try the Bettong.
The Time Bandits are as fast as a K1 but much more stable. Their long 6.2 metre length gives them the speed.
Medium volume Alchemist.
A racing kayak with the stability that most paddlers can get used to.
If you find the top Olympic kayaks to hard to paddle - try the Alchemist.
I met the Over 55 Club on Thursday morning heading towards the Woodbridge Cafe for morning tea.
If you are retired or have some spare time on your hands and are older than 55 there are a few paddling social clubs around Perth and Mandurah.
The Gregory Race
Laurie Fray.
The North West Canoe Club was formed by a handful of enthusiasts on January 14 1975. In early 1976, four club members paddled the Gregory River from the Knobbies to the pub. The trip was such a success that it was decided to organise it into a canoe race.
The inaugural Gregory River Canoe Race took place on June 6, 1976. Eighteen paddlers started the race. Dave Ferguson was the first across the line in a time of 4 hours and 9 minutes. He was closely followed by the legendary Ron Snow, two minutes behind.
The race has since gone from strength to strength, and has grown to be one of the largest and most isolated canoe races in Australia, regularly attracting over 150 competitors.
It was a great weekend at the Gregory again,
great people and great weather with the biggest number of canoes on the water and the biggest crowds of campers that i have ever seen. Laurie Fray.
It looks as if this crew has better skills than the crew above.
An Australian paddling representative, Mike Mills-Thom, from Coffs Harbour broke the K1 Men's Masters 3 record at the Gregory Canoe marathon on the weekend, in 3.13.11.
The course was inundated with 151 paddlers and 84 canoes and kayaks, making the annual marathon a mental and physical challenge for all the competitors.
