I had a training session with Ron Clarke on Sunday morning. He is flying off to Portugal on Tuesday with other paddlers leaving at different times this week. If I didn't have to have a prostrate operation I would be there with them, instead I'm doing pelvic floor muscle exercises, bladder training, gym work and walking to
help with recovery and of course I'm still paddling a lot.
That's not quite as romantic as going to Portugal to race against the world's best and to be able to check out the breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, rich history, charming villages and magnificent cities. But what's more important than being fit and ready for a good recovery after an
operation.
The master paddlers Mark Lawson, Ron Clarke and Jenni Bateman will be racing on the 2nd and 3rd September. Luke Dooley will be racing on the 5th in K1 and in K2 on the 6th, and probably at the same time as my operation. Josh will be racing K1 on the 7th and K2 on the 8th September.
Go guys.
Ron Clark off to paddle against the world's best Master Paddlers
A CDU Sponsored Kayak goes to Hunter Over the years I have given a promising young paddler a kayak to paddle, to help them along to fulfill their dreams. Paddlers like Coran
Longwood, Anthony Carbone, Monique Carbone, Luke Dooley (several) and a double guppy to Matthew and Nicholas Greed. They have all achieved a lot in the sport and have inspired others through their own drive and enthusiasm. I have also supported several other paddlers and donated 4 double guppies to clubs to help them build up their junior paddlers.
This season Hunter Florisson is the lucky young paddler to
get a lightweight Epic K1 to paddle. Hopefully this will help him build his skills, his fitness and his commitment. He has the enthusiasm and has already won several race medals at a state and Australian level.

What Sad News
It was certainly a sad day for our wildlife after the news that the dolphin 'Highnitch' which
had been caught up in the fishing line has died. It's even more heart breaking as Highnitch was part of the Perth community that many people would have seen swimming in our Swan and Canning River systems.
Parks and Wildlife Western Australia
A sad outcome for Highnitch.
The adult female dolphin that was entangled in fishing line in the Swan River has died and has
now been transported to Murdoch University for assessment.
The entanglement was more severe than expected, with fishing line also wrapped around its tail. A plastic bag was entrapped in the fishing line. The dolphin’s skin was also showing signs of an infection that may have impacted the healing of its wounds.
Parks and Wildlife Service wildlife officers are monitoring the activities of the
calf of the deceased dolphin. Sightings (ideally with photographs) should be reported to the Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055.
This incident highlights the hazards for our wildlife associated with fishing line and people are reminded to dispose of fishing line and tackle appropriately. Dozens of fishing line bins are located across popular jetties, fishing platforms, traffic bridges and foreshores so people can dispose of lines.
