The Doctor Race is on this Saturday (25th)

From Rottnest to Sorrento (27kms)

If you want to see the competitors, many the best in the world, hit the beach at Sorrento, be on the Sorrento Beach Saturday afternoon.

The time will depend on the time they start off from Rottnest.
This is usually decided on the day.

The downwind conditions are supposed to be good.

George Pankhurst and Jayden Hart enjoying the Pairs Enduro Race.
Luke Dooley is fast and furious but he was out of his comfort zone when I was teaching him how to paddle a Canadian canoe. Three hundred metres of weaving across the river and his arms were stiff and tired!
Yippee there is still something that I am better at - for now at least!
Two weeks ago a deadly snake was seen on the Ascot KC beach, these black swans were more welcome.

Caught!

I commented last week about all the speeding boats on the river. It was no different last weekend but there was a surprise for some.
Just as the Pairs Enduro Race finished last Sunday a power boat with tube in tow circled the area despite paddlers being around.
An hour later when I arrived home it was still doing figure of 8s across the river.
Fifteen minutes later the Parks & Wildlife police vessel caught them in the act.
Not sure if they got a warning or a fine.
One down - hundreds to go!

Give your Craft a Good Wash & Polish

Does your composite (fibreglass/Kevlar/carbon) craft have black marks on it from the roof rack cradles or brown scum from the river water. Is your paddle looking dull? If so it’s time to give them a good wash and polish.

Having 16 Epic demo craft in my fleet and several other expensive boats, I like to keep them in pretty good condition so they get a fairly regular wash and polish. Having white hulls, a black mark or river scum is quite noticeable. Leave it there for too long and the craft will start looking used and the stains will be much harder to get off. To keep it looking new a quick wash and polish does wonders.

I usually give my craft a wash down with water (but boat or car wash solution will help get the grime off if it’s too bad) and then I polish it using fibreglass polish. (Some people use car polish.) You will never believe the difference so give it a go.

If your craft is too grimy or dull you might need to use some fibreglass stain remover but you need to be a little more careful when doing so.

Men's

Hank McGregor leads the pack out of Clearwater Bay but a kilometre from the start Cory Hill powered into the lead, making the most of the head wind and the reflected chop bouncing off the base of Steep Island.

The conditions for the men's race were far better than the flat conditions experience in the women's race. Here Jasper Mocke paddles between Ninepins and the Kissing Whales.
