Selma is a top sprint and ocean racing paddler and Development Squad Coach & Membership Officer for Bayswater Paddle Sports Club. 

Although Jaime is no longer training for the Olympics she and Selma are still training hard. Well that is what appears when I see them on the river.

Jamie represented Australian paddling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Jaime also represented Australia In 2014 competing at World Cup and World Championships.

As an Australian Surf Life Saving Championships finalist, Jamie represented the Mullaloo SLSC and has also represented Australia at the Lifesaving World Championships.

It was good to see Jesse on the water on Wednesday morning. I haven't seen him for a while, but it's most likely because he is married, has two young boys and a full time job.

Jesse Phillips (born 26 July 1986) is an Australian sprint canoeist. He is a five-time national champion (2010-2014) in the men's kayak doubles (200 m), and a member of the Bayswater Paddle Sports Club, under his personal coach Ramon Andersson.  

Jesse qualified for the men's K-2 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, by placing in the 2012 ICF Oceania Qualification Tournament. 

Jesse and his partner Stephen Bird finished sixth in the final of the London 2012 Olympics by four hundredths of a second (0.04) behind the Argentine pair Miguel Correa and Rubén Voisard, with a time of 35.315 seconds.

It's a free event for SUPWA members or $10 to non members, just nominate your completion time. 

Look out for the next one in December.

1. The Long Loop(2xlaps) - 4km (below 30mins is a good time for strong paddler)

2. Short Loop (1xlap) - 2km (below 15mins is a good time for a strong paddler)

3. 1km loop also available!!

It isn't a race, but about having fun. Nominate a time that you think you will achieve - next Paddle Loop try and beat that time. The trick is to paddle consistently at a speed you feel comfortable with - which is entirely up to you! The winner is the person closest to their nominated time.  The top 3 paddlers (closest to their time) receive ultimate legendary SUP paddler status + prizes.

It's a fun opportunity to get involved with the very friendly SUPWA community and try or develop your SUP paddling. Get some tips, have some fun or have a goal for fitness. Open to all levels and all ages. (Kids under 13 must be accompanied/chaperoned by an adult around the course).

Please arrive 0845 for sign on and safety briefing.

Leg/waist leash mandatory. NO LEASH, NO PADDLE.

Main Course:

Start at Henry St boat ramp. Paddle to Ravenswood (distance 16.4 km)

Guppies, Short:

Start at Ravenswood. Paddle downstream and turn under the Ravenswood Bridge. Then paddle upstream around the buoy placed off the end of the jetty at the Murray Street Boat Ramp and back to the start point.

U10s - 1 lap [3.75km],

U12s & Short - 2 laps [7.5km].

2025 State Ocean Racing Champs

Some exciting new changes!

This year, we’re proud to partner with the Sunset Surfski Series, with our State Champs opening the series in spectacular fashion!

We’re changing the race to a 12km ocean paddle from Sandtraxs, Port Beach Fremantle to City Beach, offering a fast, fun, and challenging course for paddlers of all levels.

We hope the shorter distance will attract a bigger field – especially juniors – while still delivering a true test of skill and endurance.

After the race, join us at the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club for a bite to eat, great company, and our medal presentations as we celebrate WA’s ocean racing community.
