Well my 7th book is nearly ready.
Thursday night about 7.15pm I did
the last changes to my bird book. I was on the phone to paddler Sharon Cobley (Moja Creative) who had offered to bring the book together and get it to a finish product.
Sharon posted it to the printer minutes later.
Now I can do no more changes, only wait for the
finish product.
Over the last few weeks I have been sending photos to Sharon that would make up this book, 412 of them, as well as a lot of text. There have been lots of small changes, some I feared asking Sharon to change as it created more work for her, but no matter how many times I asked her to
do changes she was happy to do them.
I usually like doing everything myself, but as I don't have the technology touch, some times I have to ask for help. And by doing that, the book looks a lot more professional than what I could have done, thanks to Sharon.
I remember putting my second book together, a text book on Canoeing & Kayaking. It took a long time to write as everything had to be totally correct and it had virtually everything in it that represented all disciplines of paddling. I put it together using a 286 computer (if you remember them) that wasn't very
powerful and it took floppy disks which had little memory.
On Tuesday I got a call from a paddler in NSWs. He wanted to buy a paddle. We got talking and eventually he asked me if I was Terry. Thirty years ago he went to a University over in NSWs and studied recreation. He said my text book,
Canoeing Down Under was used at the university as a reference book and it was the best. He said, I can't believe I'm talking to the man who wrote it.
It's good to have some feedback even if it is 30 years later.
