It gave me great pleasure to nominate Rosalie Evans for a
Paddle WA Life Membership and give her the
award.
I think the first time I met Rosalie was up near Olive Farm. She was with a girl friend and they were paddling 415s and getting ready to compete in the Avon Descent for the first time. After that she got hooked into paddling and the administration of paddling and never looked back.
Rosalie started paddling at the age of 45, around 1997 and soon after joined the Ascot Kayak Club.
She was on the Wild Water discipline committee for five years, before taking on the role of secretary of the Ascot Kayak Club for 8 years, 2000 – 2008. She became a Life Member of Ascot Kayak Club in 2009.
In 2008 Rosalie became the President of Canoeing Western Australia (Paddle WA) and was in that role until 2011.
In 2012 Rosalie was appointed the executive officer of Paddle WA and has been overseeing paddling in WA ever since. (2012-2022)
Her
duties also include representing WA at National level and going to a multiple amount of meetings with government agencies and other agencies relating to the sport.
Rosalie is also an accomplished paddler and her enthusiasm and devotion to the sport of kayaking over the last 25 years has been truly
outstanding.
