Well last week was all about the Australian Masters Games but it wasn’t without a few problems due to covid and the fact that they had to cancel it last year. When it did get a new date it
conflicted with the Australian Marathon Championships which several master paddlers take part in. Then WA was in lockdown and although it came out of lockdown there was a little doubt in the east that it would go ahead so it saw fewer people coming over.
Nevertheless we all had a great time. We spoke to some of the competitors at the closing ceremony and they had lots of teams take part with several from the east and they were very happy with the event.
I would have loved to have seen more local paddlers take part so I was a little disappointed they hadn’t, but the ones that did support the event had a great time.
If we are to grow as a sport, if we want more recognition from the governments we need to support events like these.
